SENIOR R&D TECHNOLOGIST
Position Summary:
The Senior R&D Technologist is responsible for providing technical expertise and program management for the development and commercialization of innovative adsorbent materials and forms for mercury removal and other market applications in concert with ADA Carbon Solution’s business strategy. The position will maintain a high level of technical expertise in areas of specialization and develop skills in new areas as required. A focus is to integrate technology development with business planning and customer needs. He or she will plan, execute and direct research and development activities for new innovative products, services, or ideologies by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors/employees.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential duties and responsibilities regularly performed and normally assigned to this position are as follows:
- Identifies, in conjunction with marketing and engineering management, promising areas of research and technology that address unmet needs and have large potential markets and help to prioritize and execute the work.
- Assists in development and implementation of best practice for project selection and management. (e.g., Design For Six Sigma, Stage-Gate, Portfolio Management).
- Works with Finance to generate project and portfolio Net Present Value profiles.
- Sets milestone and activity plans for portfolio projects and meets them.
- Drives the commercialization of new technology and products to ensure a fundamental scientific base and robust process scale-up.
- Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objective or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, and equipment and human resource requirements.
- Works with Technical Service and Sales to develop testing protocols to ensure meaningful performance data can be generated to predict value to prospective customers.
- Submits and manages expense budgets.
- Works with Sales and customers to commercialize new products and technologies.
- Recruits and manages internal and external talent to ensure that we have the necessary expertise to accomplish our innovation objectives. This should include developing relationships with academics, government bodies and peer companies in industry.
- Tracks industry trends, relevant legislation, and competitor activities, patent landscapes.
- Works with VP Technology to develop our IP strategy and proposes alternatives to get best value for our IP.

Education, Certificates and Licenses:
- Master of Science degree (M.S.) required; PhD. strongly preferred
Experience:
- Approximately ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient working knowledge of the MS Office Suite and demonstrated ability to learn other software as necessary.
